Youth Work Positions (Whanganui)

Job Location: Wellington / New Zealand
We currently have three Youth Work positions available in our Whanganui Education and Youth Services departments.
o Lead mentor
o Tutor
o Youth Worker

All our positions provide opportunities to make a difference to young people in our community and offer day to day variety in your work whilst working for a respected, well-known brand.

LEAD MENTOR (part-time, varying hours)
Work with young people both one-to-one and in groups, provide professional leadership and have input at a senior level to programmes and plans.
Flexibility is important with ability to work varying hours through the year as follows:
o Term time - 20 hours per week
o Term breaks (approx 9 weeks per year) - 30 hours per week
o 6 or 7 weekends per year, including overnight stays at camps

TUTOR (full time)
Working with young people between the ages of 13-18, this is a classroom based position, delivering curriculum under the Youth Guarantee Scheme so experience working with students outside mainstream education is important. As well as classroom work, in this position you will pick up and drop off students and assist with planning and report writing.

To succeed in this position applicants need to be:
o Qualified with the National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education or higher
o Competent in managing a classroom to create a fun, interesting and dynamic environment
o Unit 4098 is preferred but we will also consider applicants prepared to study for this

MENTOR (casual)
We're looking for people to work with us on a casual basis providing one-to-one support and mentoring to young people. Typically this includes about 5 hours per week for a set number of weeks but hours and length of programme can vary so flexibility is important.

For all positions the following qualifications and experience are desirable:
o A Certificate in Youth Work or equivalent, or willingness to study towards this
o Proven experience working with youth from a diverse range of backgrounds
o Excellent planning, organising and coordinating skills
o Proven ability to build professional relationships
o A full clean drivers' licence
